Profile
Allan McNally was born in Galloway in the remote and unspoiled Southwest of Scotland. Allan was raised on a farm in Galloway and his childhood was spent growing up in rugged scenic surroundings with mountains, ancient woodlands, nature and sea as a backyard to play in and discover. Living in such a wild and beautiful wilderness had an uplifting effect on him and from an early age he was inspired to pick up a brush and start painting. One of Allan’s favourite memories is of the times spent exploring and sketching the local fishing villages that hug the Galloway coastline.

Today, his love of the great outdoors kindled in early life is matched by his concern for the environment, and as a result he is actively involved in the conservation of the Scottish countryside, wildlife and nature that he paints.

Allan is a self-taught artist, who spent twenty years learning his craft before rounding off his art education by undertaking an Advanced Diploma in Art and Design.

Since 1984 Allan has exhibited his work throughout Scotland and more recently also in the United States. He was chosen to exhibit his work along with selected artists from around Britain at the British Work House Gallery, Dallas, Texas. Also, his work hangs in several corporate and private collections throughout the UK, North America, Australia and Japan. Allan enjoys painting to request and his watercolour painting style has led to many commissions from businesses and individuals for yachts, homes, town scenes and historic buildings.

Artist Statement:
"I enjoy exploring the versatility of watercolours and find it a refreshing medium to capture the ever changing moods of Scottish landscapes and seascapes. I gain inspiration for my work from remote wilderness places, fishing villages and nature. Savouring the challenge of finding unusual subjects to paint in unexpected places. I love coming across a forgotten derelict croft, an old boat on a quay, a washed up lobster pot on a beach or a fox in an urban garden. It always surprises me the painting subjects that are created by nature and the Scottish countryside.
